Does any one know a safe way( like not gonna totally destroy a valuable part of the surrounding ecosystem of my flat ) to get rid of ants?? Don't like the idea of genocide.

Yip...from mitre 10 you can get these sticky things for flys and you hang them up and its kind of disgusting cause they become attracted to this sticky stuff and go and sit on it5 then it takes about 5 days for them to die..poor buggers...i dont about ants though, but it works for flies, you just have to put up with these sticky things with decorative dead flies hainging from your walls...
