Does anyone know anything about colosseum as far as Palmy Venues go?

Its a good room if you can fill it.

I think it's like $100-$150 to hire, and then PA costs on top of that.

Might pay to hold fire on the colosseum, looks like both Harvesters and Guv'nors will be reopening under new management some time soon...

Not that Harvesters was ever a good place to play though...

Soundwise Harvesters was poo, but hell, at least the atmosphere was great, and the place would be packed out (even if it was the same amount of punters as now). I liked it.

Sound is also poo in the colosseum..... Actually, since the horse, there ain't really been a decent live venue in palmy as far as sound went. The horse had a bass trap in the mix position, but all us locals knew that and could compensate . Guv's was ok, but it ddid bounce around in there abit, and there was always a hell of a lot of volume trapped on that stage that made it difficult to mix in there... sometimes I managed ok, but other times I struggled. hmmmm Sounds like the break is going well though, and the venue are supporting the bands well, so why take focus away from there? I think the problem we have had in Palmy for a long time is having a venue where the mutants are appreciated. It seems to be the way now at the break, so I would hold onto that relationship and milk it for all it is worth, but don't go over the top there, like one thing that kills palmy venues is tooo many gigs..... It would be great if there were more than one option to play in palmy, but where things sit right now, I dunno if there are enough punters to sustain anything substantial.

lol, he opened his mouth again . I acknowleedge right now that I havent been anywhere neear palmy for almost 2 years now, so I couod be talking out my arse.... some how I dont think things have changed that much though

With Harvesters I didn't feel like I was just an irritation, unlike some venues were your treated like a peice of shit. As an audience member it was great too, with the candles and friendly bar staff etc. I found it similar to the Valve ( but nicer).
As for the Wild Horse it was before I moved to P.N. so I wouldn't know, and I don't think I have been to The Break....sober at least. Markham has told me funny stories of the Wild Horse days, but I don't recall anything about the sound set up

the break is ok but it is not conducive to live music really... you cant hear anything when youre playing and unless you stand against the back wall you cant really hear the music that well when in the crowd, of course being drunk this doesnt matter as much but still its a weird place

as for being supportive the owners are/were but things have happened and now she seems to be relying on bands to make them money and its just not gunna happen so i see it ending sometime shortly

Punkgolfer is right, it is definitely not the ideal venue and as far as being supportive to bands we felt somewhat short changed after our last visit, maybe the support supply ran out by the time we got there. The earth was promised and zip was delivered. We gave them benefit of the doubt as they said it was hard times but I have heard otherwise...either way hard times or not bands like ourselves can't afford to travel the country playing for peanuts. Hence the quest for an alternative venue. It is kind of scary when a whole music scene is resting on such a shaky venue. Lets hope the Snuff is right and Guv's and Harvesters come back from the dead. Venue options are good! Everyone in our band loves playing in Palmy as we have big ties to the area and we want to see the Palmy scene cranking. At the moment though, The Break really does seem to be the only option.

I heard Harvies is sorting it's own PA out, I'd play there again if that's the case. And Guv's has a big stage which is cool.

If the Break's putting on Free gigs it's gotta pay the bands.
Hopefully that was a one off? anyway I'm wondering how much longer it'll last too.

Harvies had a good atmosphere but no stage, also Wednesday night gigs sucked cos playing to the unemployed and hospo you're never gonna be able to get a decent audience.

The Break was cool when they were paying bands but it looks like this is poss going pear... I know Cobra Khan are pulling their planned October show there cos of the nightmare trying to sort shit out.

Guvs is definately the best stage in the swamp (excluding the Globe and the Regent obviously) it's downfalls have only ever been poor management and poorly organised shows.

I agree with Gapp about the too many shows call.

i remember those wednesday nights as awesome drunken times! such a ridiculous number of great bands played there, and when harvies closed it pretty much killed the mid-week bender. well, MY mid-week bender at least.

I agree totally with all of the above.

The Break are relying on bands to support their business but they are not giving much back. We have played 2 gigs there and have got a few free drinks as payment but we never got pissed for free so bleh.

Guv'nors was definitley the place to be, great stage and hell of a lot of prescence made that place awesome. If they are bringing back gigs there then we (the public and bands) need to support it so that the hip hop and rap tyrants dont over rule the joint, has anyone been into guv'nors recently!?!?! Jesus christ man I thought I must be a pissed cunt coz I thought I was at Jones bar for a second.

Yeah I felt sorry for Agent coming all that way to play for nothing, if more good bands are gona come they need an incentive to, otherwise the swamps gona turn into a hermit city.

Harvesters was good back in the day, definitley for more relaxin or rocky music.

Bring on more gigs at the globe!!! the globe was the shizz nit.
