SEPTA driver charged with assault after altercation with a passenger
By Barbara Boyer
Inquirer Staff Writer

A SEPTA driver arrested after assaulting a passenger and throwing her off the bus has been suspended without pay and will probably be fired, officials said yesterday.

Mario Edney, 53, of the 5700 block of North Woodstock Street, was charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, and making terroristic threats, said Officer Jillian Russell, a police spokeswoman.

On Wednesday, about 11:20 a.m., Edney, a driver for the Route 17 bus, and the passenger, a 52-year-old woman whose name has not been released, got into an altercation around 20th Street and Washington Avenue in South Philadelphia, Russell said.

"The driver and the passenger began arguing about him not stopping at her stop," Russell said. "He grabbed her by the hair and knocked her head into a pole."

The driver then opened the door and allegedly threw the victim into traffic on Washington, Russell said.

The driver continued driving the bus north and later was pulled over at Ninth and Market Streets in Center City, Russell said.

The victim was taken to Graduate Hospital, where she was treated for a broken shoulder, Russell said, adding that it appeared the woman may need surgery.

SEPTA spokesman James Whitaker said Edney was suspended with intent to discharge. A required procedural hearing will be scheduled after an internal SEPTA investigation.

Whitaker said SEPTA was also cooperating with police in a criminal investigation of the matter.

That'll learn Her!
I sympathise with bus drivers, most comuters are pretty thick and bus drivers can't really scream abuse at other drivers so it must build up(the tension and or extreme granny throwing rage) and fuck being around when it goes off! No need to smack the old lady's head into the pole though, a simple toss off the bus should have been enough! :D ...
....ok He shouldn't have thrown Her off the bus, just got her name and banned her from the bus route. But how thick can you get, thats like arguing with the surgeon while He/She is operating on you ...not a good idea if you want to live, or come out with everything still attached!:P

Bus driver faces sack after road-rage incident

16.02.06
By Derek Cheng

A bus driver is facing the sack after a road-rage incident in downtown Auckland in which he tried to drag a woman from her car, and then floored a 64-year-old man who came to her aid.

"It was totally uncalled for. He had totally and completely lost it," said Milford resident Bill Ellingham, who found himself punched to the ground on Queen St about 2.50pm on Tuesday.

Mr Ellingham said he had watched from the footpath moments earlier as the Stagecoach driver beeped his horn at the woman's car for about 30 seconds. Her car was in front of the bus and had stopped at an intersection to allow turning traffic into Darby St.

"The woman couldn't move without blocking the intersection," Mr Ellingham said. "She did nothing to aggravate him apart from being stopped in the line of traffic."

Witnesses say the bus driver then got out of the bus, which was empty, and went to the woman's car and tried to drag her from it.

"He also tried to push the car himself and I went up to him and said words to the effect of: 'Cut that out, there's no need for that', and two seconds later I'd got the biffo and was on the ground," Mr Ellingham said.

"He said a few abusive words to me and the crowd in general, as quite a large crowd had gathered by then. As I was being helped up off the ground, he jumped in the bus and took off, running a red light to get away."

Mr Ellingham, who called the police, had minor injuries. The woman had her seatbelt on and managed to remain in her car. Police are investigating. No charges have been laid yet.

Stagecoach immediately replaced the driver and suspended him on full pay. Their investigation should be completed by the end of the week. Stagecoach executive chairman Ross Martin said the driver in question did not have any record of past road-rage incidents and the news shocked him as much as anyone. "It's a terrible incident and rest assured that anyone who behaves like that won't be in the employment of Stagecoach."

Auckland Tramways Union president Gary Froggatt also criticised the driver.

"Here we are trying to protect our drivers from being attacked and for one of our own to do something like that is totally unacceptable."

Umm, what the fuck does that mean exactly. "You stupid bitch, I'm going to fly a plane into you now!" ... isn't it great that every crime is terror now. Yah the new world order.
