hahaha...Rappers sue each over copy rights! 2 Live Crew fuckin sampled everything! hahaha. Whats next Bush being removed from office for being too left-wing. How fucking stupid...though 50 Cent is making alot more money than 2 Live Crew et al probably made. So I guess the line is drawn( between 'urban' artists) at music/beats,not vocals...cos 'urban' music use in general alot of sampled or ripped basslines( don't get me started on puff daddy or p-diddy or what ever stupid fucking name he's using), and don't take offense if you like that sort of music, I am sure there are plenty of original, cutting edge artists I am totally ignorant of. Quote: Rapper sues 50 Cent over lyrics
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4634186.stmRapper 50 Cent is being sued by the ex-frontman of rap group 2 Live Crew for allegedly stealing a line for his 2003 hit single In Da Club. Luther Campbell filed a claim at Miami Federal Court that 50 Cent used the opening line of Campbell's song It's Your Birthday, changing just one word. Campbell's lawyer said that in In Da Club, "Sheila" becomes "shorty" in the line "Go shorty, it's your birthday." 50 Cent, whose real name is Curtis Jackson, was unavailable for comment. Campbell's song appeared on his 1994 solo album Still a Freak for Life. Unspecified damages The claim was filed on behalf of Lil' Joe Wein Music, which holds the copyright for It's Your Birthday. Campbell's lawyer Richard C Wolfe said: "It's the melody, it's the pace, the style - everything about that one line is the same." "We're entitled to a portion of the profits." The case also claims that Campbell's song I Like It, I love It can also be heard on the 2003 DVD 50 Cent - The New Breed. Campbell is seeking unspecified damages in addition to lawyers' fees and other legal costs. Wolfe won a $2.3m (£1.2m) judgment against Campbell in 1994 for another rapper who claimed Campbell withheld royalties. I just couldnt believe a member of 2 Live Crew of all groups would make this complaint. Its would be like Ministry sueing over being sampled! ps i use 'urban' cos i can't tell half the genres apart with distiction and thats what all hip-hop/rnB and what ever is called here in pooth. ![]() |

That SUCKS. Pop Will Eat Itself ate themselves. What about the whole Negativland / U2 fiasco that resulted over Negativeland's use of the letter "U" and the number "2"? |
