I like the colours, but I've never been a huge fan of how everything gets squashed into a width of 700 or so pixels - Ideal for an 800x600 screen, but I use what's probably a 'standard' 1024x768 screen, which it does still look ok on (except for when pics get shrunk to fit within the standard message width). Some graphics whizz-kid or gaming enthusiast with a 1600x1200 screen will see a hell of a lot of blank space either side of the forum though...

The solution which was suggested when the new forum layout was implemented over a year ago now (so it's actually been around longer than the original layout was!) was to go into your user profile settings and select the original "subSilver" Board Style, so that when you're logged in that's how the forum will look.

That being said, because Rob's now the Forum Admin guy with access to this, that and the other thing, changing how the forum looks by default would be more work on his plate! I managed to update the forum's title graphic a few weeks ago by just switching the picture which was stored at that particular address - not being a graphics whizz-kid myself, I basically just copied the forum's colour-scheme in the title graphic (although drawing around the updated site logo in gray took a while - thanks Max for updating the old logo!)

...and after that, I didn't actually end up voting in the poll because my answer to "Do you like the new forum layout" is kinda...

...and, nothing to do with the forum really, but I've started going through the site and centering the page content, so that it melds in more with that centred forum I was complaining about earlier

I've gotten the main, menu-accessed pages (except Merch...) done so far, and the rest of the site will be "dealt with" over the next day or two. Goodnight!

The site: Ummm.... not as good as it does now!

The forum: Go into your profile settings and choose "subSilver" as the Board Style and you'll see.

when I started the poll, I was thinking more along the lines of the new logo and, in a way the new look of the $lave website... There have been some design changes no?

Yeah, I've been slowly going through and updating/changing the look and layout of the site (with extensive consultation with others at $lave, I must add!) As far as things like fancy graphics go, that's not really my thing, so if it's ever down to me to put some graphics for the site together, then they're gonna end up looking pretty basic - although I do aim for "high quality basic"

So far, the only major change to the site, apart from content and logo/graphics updating, has been centering of the pages on the site - given that I have limited time to dedicate to $lave, and I'm basically now the person around here whose responsibility is doing stuff to the site as a whole, a brand new whizz-bang site won't be happening any time soon, so I'm doing what I can to what's already here.

That being said, if anyone out there's got any suggestions they'd like to make about what they think would make the site look better, feel free to let me/us know! If it's a very time-consuming and labour-intensive suggestion, there's a chance it won't end up getting implemented, but there's only one way to find out... Cheers to those at $lave who have contributed graphics to use on the site, and if anyone out there thinks that the site could benefit from some of their artistic output, get in touch!

Well I thought I should mention, I really don't like the new logo... I am talking the thing at the top of this message board page.... It is just my opinion though, no offence to anyone, not trying to hurt any feelings.... I wondered if anyone else shared my opinion, I guess that is important info for the marketing strategy of the $lave collective.

Well, my feelings aren't hurt or anything - I'm more into layout than I'm into making really cool graphics (in case you hadn't already noticed!)

There were some opinions raised about not wanting a graffiti-style graphic to replace the previous graffiti-style forum header which contained the old $lave logo, and given that scribbling was pretty much the only other thing that I could do aside from 'pedantic' graphics, something really basic (but well measured out) is what ended up getting put at the top of the forum.

The offer was extended for someone with more skills as a visual artist to tack some site graphics together, and I guess that offer's now being extended again! The forum header is 717x146 pixels, and I'm guessing you can get hold of Max (aka 'wank-stain') for a hi-res copy of either the version of the new $lave logo which is currently being used on the $lave site (my personal favourite by the way), or the version which has popped up on a few gig posters so far... If you want a copy of the new $lave site logo on a gray background (hexadecimal colour #232323 to be exact - one of the main 'forum box' colours), then I could send you one that I prepared earlier - unless Max has a nifty automated background changer or something (I guess I should really have asked him if he did before I started drawing around the outline of the logo in gray...)

So in short - yes I know that the forum header isn't really that great, but until something better comes along, that's basically just what it's gonna look like!

I still use the default style - as I run at 1440x900 there is no way I'm switching to any other style until it supports full screen... I prefer black on white to white on black for reading lots of text, also

Well, I've altered the forum header a bit (as you probably would have already noticed if you're reading this!) - it's still the same general layout, but I've changed the 'Message Forum' font and made the lettering a bit bigger.

Edit: If the previous forum header font looked at all familiar, check out a block of Whittakers chocolate next time you're able, and you'll see that whoever designed their wrappers liked the 'Algerian' font too! I found that out after I'd done the previous forum header....
