Was going to do a review on the turn-out of last night's FACTORY show but I guess I'll simply file it under the TOO COLD TO GO OUT reason.
Anyways: FANTASTIC night of heavy-metal music at the FACTORY. Cheers to the punters that came out.
Just realised that, apart from Unhalig, every band on tonight's lineup consisted of a 3-piece (wasn't intentional on my part) and was fucking stoked on every band/artists performance.
Unhalig: For a debut performance I thought Tom (Unhalig) did an awesome job. He told me he'd been pretty nervous that night (and the week leading up to the show) but I congratulate him for totally bringing the "black-metal" vibes to the show. Well done Tom!
Bulletbelt: Wicked set! Really like their take on black-metal especially when the occasional punk-rock drumming-beats are thrown in.
Drummer fucking pounds the drums (I wasn't sure if my kit was gonna survive his beating to be honest).
Amachine: AWESOME SET!!! Me being more a death-metal fan I was totally digging AMACHINE from the get go.
They play an awesome style of death-metal with out falling prey to playing any generic breakdowns which has plagued the genre in recent years. Johnny (Guitarist) played some amazing solos that have to be seen live to be believed and Ben(?) drummer was fucking ridiculous even though this band (technically speaking) is the 1st band he's ever played in (apparently). Johnny (Bass/vocals) had a pretty gnarly voice.
Barbequed Babies: Easily the best set I've seen them play - yet again. Set was incredibly tight, heavy and Rob's vocals have evolved to the point where, imo, he's adding quite a lot of high screams to his vocabulary (fucking wicked!!!). Awesome stuff guys!
Highlights of the night (apart from the bands): Meeting New Plymouth's 'Jerome Alone' who's solo albums I was exposed to about 6 months ago. Having a decent chat with Jason Hislop who I've known, through various friends we both share, since my High School days in Levin (ala the mid 90's). He's played in Falciform, Demiurge, and currently playing in Dracoarious (wrong spelling). Cheers for coming to the show bro!
Thanks to all the bands/artists for playing and being so easy to deal with.
Special thanks to Willy for supplying P.A. and his engineering skills and Richard Naylor for doing sound during BBQ'D BABIES set.
Cheers to all the peeps who lent gear to show.
